Giving
In the Judeo-Christian faith traditions, a Tithe is defined as 10% of one’s earnings which is given back to the Lord through a gift to the synagogue or church. The vast majority place the focus on the amount to be given and lose sight of the crucial importance that it is being given back to the Source from which all things are made possible.
From the time the charter for the Santa Anita Church was granted in 1948, the generous donations of its members and the surrounding community have helped the church prosper and thrive. In those times, founder Dr. Ethel Barnhart instilled a principle in the church that no one be personally solicited for money. Rather everyone was to look to Source to sustain the church through individuals as they are moved to give.
Everything in nature moves in circles. What goes out must come back. Unless the seed is sown it cannot bear fruit, there must be planting time for every harvest. Who gives all, receives all. Who refuses to give, limits the possibility of the greater Good returning to him. The seed that is planted must correspond to that which we desire in our experience. If we want more money, we must give more money; if we desire more time, we must tithe more time; if we want more love, we must love more.
Ernest Holmes
Considering these words of Ernest Holmes, one should not give from a perspective of duty, but rather with the realization that in giving, one is returning to the Source a portion of what was given unto them. At its utmost, giving should be done with joy and with the knowledge that giving is the source of receiving.
If you give, you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full measure, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running over. Whatever measure you use in giving – large or small – it will be used to measure what is given back to you.
Jesus in Luke 6:38
Donations to The Santa Anita Church are tax-deductible and go directly to the growth and sustainability of the church, our vision, and our purpose.
You cannot be open to receive if your hands are already full.
